Reptiles are entirely dependent on you to recreate their natural environment — temperature and humidity are non-negotiable.
Most reptiles need a warm basking side and a cooler side of the enclosure so they can regulate their own body temperature. Use a thermometer to verify actual temperatures — don't rely on the equipment's dial setting alone.
Many reptiles need UVB lighting to properly metabolise calcium. Without it, they're at serious risk of metabolic bone disease. Replace UVB bulbs on the schedule recommended by the manufacturer, even if they still look like they're working.
Diet varies hugely by species — some are strict insectivores, others need a mix of vegetables and protein. Research your specific species before bringing one home.
Let reptiles settle into a new environment for at least a week before regular handling. Always wash your hands before and after handling.
